Music and Performing Arts

Music and Performing Arts provide an essential platform for our students to grow their confidence, explore their creativity, expand their skills, and maybe even discover new talents.

Music and Performing Arts are a highly valued, flourishing area within our school.

Primary Music

The Primary School music program incorporates core music lessons along with curriculum-based choir lessons which occur on a weekly basis. Students in Year 4 participate in a String Program, which is taught by our String Coordinator and a classroom music teacher.

Music ensembles offered in the Primary School include the Junior String Ensemble, Primary Greek Band, Drama Club, Primary Band, and the audition choir ‘Poco Chorale’.

All Students from ELC to Year 6 are also involved in a musical production each year. Some of our recent musicals include Madagascar Jr, Moana, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

Secondary Music and Drama

Classroom Music and Drama are offered in the Secondary School. A brass and guitar program are offered in Year 7. In Year 9, Music and Drama become elective subjects which run through to VCE Music in Years 11 and 12.

Secondary students are encouraged to participate in our school productions in either a performing, musical or backstage capacity. Some of our recent productions include High School the Musical, Into the Woods, and Aladdin. They were all a wonderful experience for both the students involved as well as everyone in the audience.

Co-curricular Music and Performing Arts

To complement our classroom-based curriculum, we offer several musical ensembles which allow students to explore music with others and develop their musicianship. Some of our Secondary School ensembles include AGS Orchestra, String Ensemble, Secondary Choir, Latin Band, Folk Band, Greek Ensemble and Drumline.

There are also many opportunities throughout each School year for students to perform, including our Annual Music Concert at The Centre Ivanhoe, Antipodes Festival, City of Yarra Carols by Candlelight and other high-profile events.

Private Instrumental Tuition

In addition to music being part of our regular curriculum across the Secondary School, instrumental tuition is available for a wide variety of instruments. The Instrumental Music Program, which begins at Year 2 and continues through to Year 12, caters to all levels of musical ability. A team of experienced music teachers offer weekly lessons in our Music Department, fostering and developing each student’s individual talents and musical abilities. Participants of the instrumental program have the opportunity to showcase their talent and progress at our Soloist Evenings which are held throughout the year.
