Through a well-rounded curriculum and diverse cocurricular opportunities, students are encouraged to build skills, develop resilience, and thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment. Alphington Grammar is a proud member of Eastern Independent Schools Melbourne (EISM) for Secondary students and the Ivanhoe District School Sports Association (IDSSA) for Primary students, that allows students to try new sports and represent our School.
Primary
Our Primary Physical Education (PE) program builds fundamental skills, teamwork, and fitness through structured and engaging activities.
Sports offered are:

ELC to Year 6 participate in two 45-minute PE lessons each week.
Additional Sports
Years 3 and 4 students enjoy an extra 90-minute session of sport activities weekly.
Years 5 and 6 students participate in weekly Interschool Sport, competing in the Ivanhoe District School Sports Association (IDSSA) competition.
Students from Years 3 to 6 can volunteer to participate in Swimming Trials to qualify for the AGS Primary Swim Squad that represents the School at the District Swimming Carnival. Participation is based on individual interest and ability.
Students participate in a wide range of Track and Field events, hosted a the Box Hill Athletics Stadium. Winners in each event progress to represent AGS at the Divisional Athletics competition.
The Primary House Cross Country Carnival is held on the School Oval and Darebin Creek Trail. All students in Years 3 to 6 compete, with winners progressing to represent AGS at the District Cross Country competitions. Prep to Year 2 students participate in shorter, age appropriate distances, focusing on fun and participation while representing their House.






Secondary
Our Secondary PE and Sport Program emphasizes fitness, sportsmanship and leadership development through structured activities and competitive opportunities.
Interschool Sport – EISM
Our Secondary students compete in the Eastern Independent Schools Melbourne (EISM) competition. Held mid-week during the school day, all students in Years 7 – 11 compete and is optional for Year 12.

PE classes are 90-minutes duration and are held weekly for students in Years 7 – 9. Fitness, teamwork and technical skills are developed and enhanced physical competencies and the promotion lifelong fitness habits are formed.
Students belong to one of four House groups: Aristotle, Byron, Pericles and Socrates. Secondary House sporting events involve all students of all abilities, to complete in friendly competition, promoting belonging, camaraderie, and to earn House points to win the Carnival’s cup.

Secondary Enrichment Programs
Olympian Craig Mottram, offers our students the experience of elite coaching to enhance performance in endurance, speed and athletic disipline.
Students’ develop fundamental Basketball skills, strategic thinking and teamwork in a competitive and supportive environment.
Students’ develop boxing techniques with cardio-intensive workouts to boost strength, coordination and overall fitness in this dynamic program.
The focus of Running Club is building endurance, setting personal fitness goals, and fostering resilience through consistent training sessions.
Our students’ build skills in batting, fielding and game strategies. Teamwork develops through friendly competitions.
Students’ enhance athletic performance, learn injury prevention and build physical resilience through targeted exercise.
Through structured training students improve swimming techniques, stamina and readiness for competitions.
Our students’ enhance their reflexes, agility and strategic thinking. Sportsmanship is promoted through friendly competitions.
Our Tennis Coaching program improves students technical skills, match strategies and sportsmanship, both on and off the court.
Through expert coaching our students refine their Volleyball techniques, build teamwork and develop a deeper understanding of the sport.
