Our commitment to global education includes the Global Gateways Program, where all Years 9 and 10 students at Alphington Grammar School experience powerful personal growth, develop cross-cultural understanding, and become active global citizens.
Alphington Grammar School is committed to developing active and informed global citizens. Our compulsory Gateways Program is an opportunity for our Years 9 and 10 students to travel either internationally or interstate to broaden their cross-cultural experiences, in an experiential way. Experiential learning activities give students considerable opportunity for personal development, self-directed learning, and the development of deeper problem solving skills.
We believe that internationalism and cross-cultural understanding is integral to developing informed global citizens. Global awareness, including the study of diverse cultures, histories, and languages, is integrated into our teaching and learning programs across all year levels, from Prep to Year 12.
In Years 9 and 10, we offer our Gateways Program to expand upon these foundations. The program aims to further develop a strong sense of cultural awareness and community, and a deep understanding of the contributions our students will make to a globally sustainable future.
Each year our students choose either an international or Australian cultural experience in each of their Year 9 and Year 10 academic years.
In alternating years, our students have the choices between:
- A four week study tour of the cultures of China, Sicily and Greece, or;
- A two week study tour of Central Australia including Coober Pedy, Uluru, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs
As well as:
- A two week study tour of Vietnam, or;
- A ten day study tour of the Top End, including Darwin, Kakadu and Litchfield National Park
