Last Friday was tree planting day at Alphington Grammar School. Led by Year 10 student Esme who has shown inspiring leadership in removing invasive plants and weeds in this part of our campus that boarders the Darebin Creek; securing a Junior Landcare grant for plant purchases and assembling a team to carry out the planting. This consisted of all ELC and Primary students who helped to dig the holes, planting and watering, together with Kim Davies of the Darebin Creek Management Committee and Chris Vella from Zoos Victoria who have supported Esme in her project from day 1. As the trees and plants grow, we look forward to seeing the wildlife flourish in this corner of our School, the joy it brings to our students and greater community.

Today our Year 10 and 11 students took part in a Cross Country race on campus and the surrounding Darebin Creek Trail. The course consisted of completing three circuits around the School grounds along the trail and crossing two bridges. Some ran the course in good time, others chose to walk and some a bit of both but all enjoyed the course in our beautiful natural surroundings.

Today at Alphington Grammar we celebrated our love of books with students encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters. In our Primary School we had a Book Week parade and were treated to so many well thought out and colourful costumes, from students and staff. The parade took place in our Gym this morning with a large group of our parents cheering our students on.

During STEM week we had a visit from Wild Action Zoo which included some very special guests. Our Year 7 students had the pleasure of learning from the zoologist and interacting with the animals, including: a sea star, echidna, fruit bat, crocodile, owl, lizard, giant cockroach, spider, joey. Students learnt about the animals and their classifications. We thank Wild Action Zoo for their visit and hands-on learning, an experience to remember!
