Alpha News, Term 1, Week 8

Open Day

Due to recent building and construction works it has been some 4 years since our last Open Day. The success of last weekend’s Open Day was a real affirmation of the strength of our School.

We had over 800 attendees come through the doors throughout the day in the time we were open to the general public.

We also had over 50 past students and staff at the Alumni reunion in the later part of the day. It was wonderful to have past students and staff come to visit the school and take a private tour of the facilities. Past School Captains including Mercury Yi (who flew in from Sydney for the day) and Stephanie Houdalakis, as well as past scholars now in employment across many fields of endeavour were able to join us. The ability to then relax with past students and staff sharing stories and reminiscing was a wonderful way to finish off a terrific day.

Our guests all left our school full of praise for the way it is looking and the opportunities that exist for our students.

Much work goes into having events of this type and I wish to express my gratitude to all involved. Every part of the School was shining. From the ELC building through to the classrooms, the displays, the Faculty exhibitions and popup centres while the music around The School just filtered through the buildings adding to the atmosphere.

There were STEM experiments and art activities which kept the public captivated. The library hosted many activities including Gateways exhibition, EAL and Learning support. It was alive with visitors the whole time. I also thank the LOTE department for fielding questions and making it look so easy to learn a foreign language. As if that wasn’t enough the visitors were then able to get physical with all the sports activities on display.

THANK YOU to all staff and student leaders for the enormous effort that has gone into preparing classrooms, activities and leading tours to showcase all that we offer across The School.
