From the Principal
What an interesting couple of years we have all had. As we prepare to farewell this academic year, I marvel at the way many of our students have pivoted from face to face learning, to remote learning and back again…. not once, but six times so far!
The last few years haven’t been a time any of us could have imagined, yet alone planned for. It has been another abnormal year where everyone has needed to reset goals. Students, staff and families have all done that with as much positivity as anyone could have wished for. Accepting what’s not in our control, to creatively thinking about the things we might do differently to other years. While there are milestones that we can lament have been missed, we are right to sense that a time of change is on our horizon, and deep down we hope 2022 will bring stability and allow us to put aside our frustrations and disappointments.
End of Year Activities
The return to onsite learning this term has meant that we could reengage with the class and co-curricular activities we had planned, from: swimming, gymnastics, music concerts, recitals, the Years 5 and 6 Music Production of Beauty and the Beast, the Year 6 Graduation, and this week’s Valedictory Dinner, which was a special occasion for the Class of 2021 and their families.
I share part of my end of year address with students and their families recently.
“Due to your COVID experiences, you are the generation that will have more empathy, enjoy family connections, be more creative, know how to entertain yourselves, love to read, love to express yourselves in writing, in art and, in music.
You are the generation who will understand what’s important and how to live with less, how to plan shopping trips, meals at home, learn the value of eating together as a family and find the good to share in the everyday delights.
You will be the generation who will be resilient, be content and place greater value on teachers, education, librarians, health professionals and community support workers…
Great leaders will emerge from your generation.”
