Library Opening

At Alphington Grammar School, we are on a mission to encourage all students to pursue excellence in all that they do.  At the heart of that is the desire to imagine and explore and, to learn. What better place to do that than in a Library.

Libraries throughout the centuries have been places that transform, inspire and enrich our communities, society and generations of people.  Centuries ago, information was in the hands of a privileged few; now, we view libraries as trans-functional centres where access to information is a right not a privilege.  It is that access that will transform individuals and communities everywhere.

I am incredibly proud to be able to bring this facility to our school community.  A facility that I believe will continue to underpin our School values and help us all “Aspire to Excellence”.

We recently had the opportunity to officially open our new Library with the help of Senator the Honourable Jane Hume, Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and the Digital Economy. The Chair of School Council; Associate Professor Marinis Pirpiris, together with School Council and Greek Community representatives, staff, and students, were also there when the Library was officially opened.

A project of this magnitude, with a total cost of $3,257,000.00, of which a $943,000.00 came from our Federal Government, it was only fitting that Senator the Hon Jane Hume was able to help us open the facility officially.

The facility we enjoy today is the result of much visionary and creative thinking, planning and sheer hard work! From its approval and endorsement by School Council and the Greek Community, to design. construction, and fit out with The School’s own fundraising efforts and borrowings. It has been a huge journey… one which now that we see completed has all but faded from memory.

Thank you everyone for making this vision a reality.  Our Library is certainly the “heart” of our School.  My wish is that it will continue to inspire generations of scholars to come.  Thank you to all families who contributed directly to the Library Fundraising drive and/or who contributed via the School Building Fund.
