AGS Bulletin 2022, Term 4, Week 9

Term 4, Week 9 2022

General Notices

Covid - 19 Update

While the introduction of the National Cabinet’s decision to remove isolation mandates in October brought the Victorian community much needed relief and freedom, we have begun to see a rise in Covid-19 infections due to steadfast nature of emerging Omicron subvariants. Therefore, the following is a reminder of the important measures families and our School should continue to adhere to in order to help reduce the spread of infection.

These include staying home when unwell (minimum of 5 days or as long as symptomatic), undertaking RAT when unwell or symptomatic, ensuring appropriate ventilation when indoors (via air purification and open windows and doors), and ongoing compliance with personal hygiene and infection control measures.

We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. It is about keeping all students and staff safe, and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases, in the remaining weeks until Christmas break.

Thank you for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.

Summer Holiday Reading Recommendation from the Library

Research has identified a phenomenon known as the ‘summer slide’, which refers to the loss of literacy skills over the summer holidays when children do not read -estimated on average as the equivalent of two to three months of reading proficiency.

Library staff encourage students in all areas of the school to read during the summer break. Students from year 3 upwards are able to borrow books from the library to read over the break and return at the beginning of Term 1 next year.

Your local public library also has a range of easily accessed resources for students regardless of age.

Also you may be interested in the BIG Summer Read, a free reading program accessed through your public library. Read your way through summer and go in the draw for an amazing prize!

The challenge runs from 1 December 2022 – 31 January 2023. Registrations are open to all.
